I have always loved gardening. Growing up in Kenya our gardens were lush with the mostbeautiful and colourful flowers. My mother loved roses and when we came to Australia sheplanted lots of rose bushes which we are so grateful for now that she is no longer with us. We still get to cut and keep the roses inside our home as a reminder of her.

My quilting career now does not leave me much time for gardening but my sister looks afterthat now. Instead of tending to the garden I now create my own garden in my quilts - lots oflush borders or vines, leaves and flowers - and lots of colourful flowers of my own invention. The best thing is that my blooms never fade or wither away.

Garden Party Down Under was designed because of my love for flowers. I wanted to make a quilt that as colourful as possible with flowers, leaves and vines, as well as a few pieced blocks. There are lots of different ways to do applique – I prefer either needle turn or prepared edge – but you get to choose your favourite method.
